Doaba College organizes Seminar on Outcome Based Education in Light of NEP

Jalandhar, December 2, 2022: IQAC of Doaba College Jalandhar organized a Seminar entitled “Outcome Based Education in light of NEP-2020”. Dr. RK Garg, Professor, Industrial and Production Engineering, NIT, Jalandhar was the resource person. The event began with the hearty welcome of the resource person by presenting him a sapling by Dr. Pardeep Bhandari, Principal Doaba College, Dr. Naresh Malhotra, Co-ordinator IQAC, Prof Sandeep Chahal, Dr Surinder Sharma  and Dr. Rajeev Khosla and teaching staff.

In his welcome address, Principal, Dr. Pardeep Bhandari, said that teachers can contribute towards a better education system with their fruitful efforts. Dr. Pardeep Bhandari said that in Outcome Based Education more emphasis would be given on the timely development of skills \and enhanced  learning of a student so that after completion of his degree he is finely attuned to the requirements of a particular job

Prof Sandeep Chahal introduced ace academician cum key speaker Dr RK Garg and about the topic Outcome Based  Education vis a vis NEP 2020 and said that the term was coined by renowned acdemicin and psychologist William Spady in 1988 nd Dr RK Garg would discuss in detail about its components viz curriculum design, teaching and learning methods , ssesment, continual quality improvement and student monitoring   

Dr. RK Garg discussed and deliberated upon Outcome Based Education as it is one of the main focuses of the NEP 2020. He reflected on Bloom's Taxonomy and explained the six levels of thinking, namely Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Evaluation and Synthesis. He also differentiated between Input Based Education and Output Based Education System. Speaking on the theme of Output Based Education, he emphasized the importance of defining Goals, Objectives and Outcomes. He furthered elaborated on the Education Objectives, Learning Objectives and Student Learning Objectives.

Emphasizing on Learning Outcomes he said that they play a pivotal role in Outcome Based Education and discussed why and how to write Student Learning Outcomes. He ended his talk with the assertion that Output Based Education is based on feedback. The event concluded with a highly interactive session. Dr. Naresh Malhotra extended the formal vote of thanks.
