Dr. Anil Receives Dr. Lalitha Kameshwaran Oration Award
Chandigarh, December 2, 2024: The Indian Pharmacological Society (IPS) has conferred the esteemed Dr. Lalitha Kameshwaran Oration Award to Dr. Anil Kumar, Professor and Chairperson at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, Chandigarh. The prestigious award was conferred during the 54th Annual Conference of the Indian Pharmacological Society (IPS) held in AIIMS, New Delhi. This recognition celebrates Dr. Kumar's exemplary contributions to pharmaceutical education, research, and his leadership in advancing the field of pharmacology.
Dr. Anil Kumar, a distinguished alumnus of Panjab University, holds multiple accolades, including recognition among the world's top 2 percent scientists in pharmacy and pharmacology by Stanford University. With over 24 years of academic and research experience, Dr. Kumar has held significant positions, including his current role as Chairperson of UIPS and various leadership responsibilities such as Principal Investigator for UIPS (RUSA) and Member Secretary of CCCSEA, Panjab University. This award stands as a testament to Dr. Anil Kumar’s relentless dedication to pharmacological research and his enduring impact on improving healthcare and education globally.
Dr. Kumar's research has been transformative in the understanding and treatment of neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders such as Alzheimer's, Huntington’s, and Parkinson’s diseases, along with his work on diabetes-related complications and sleep disorders. His prolific contributions include 191 research papers (with over 9,500 citations and an H-index of 49), 54 review articles, 25 book chapters, and four books. He has mentored 17 Ph.D. scholars, 51 postgraduates, and three post-doctoral researchers. His research has been supported by 20 prestigious grants from organizations like CSIR, ICMR, and DST, cumulatively amounting to over Rs. 2.0 crores.
Dr. Kumar's groundbreaking studies have garnered him numerous national and international honors, including the ICMR Award for Biomedical Scientist, AICTE career award, BOYSCAST Fellowship, Riken Brain Science Fellowship, and the APTI’s Young Pharmacy Teacher Award.
In his illustrious career, Dr. Kumar has presented his work across 25 countries, actively contributing to global scientific dialogue. He is a member of 25+ professional bodies and serves on the editorial boards of 12 prestigious journals.
