Dr. Cheema assures full support to develop sports infrastructure at grass root level

Mohali/Chandigarh, January 9, 2015: The Education department of Punjab, is planning a strategy to encourage the students of primary and middle classes to take part in sports activities and also to create ideal atmosphere for the development of sports in the state.

Education Minister of Punjab, Dr.Daljit Singh Cheema said this while presiding over a meeting of all the Assistant Education Officers (Sports) of the state in PSEB Complex, Mohali. During the meeting, Former hockey Olympian and MLA Pargat Singh assured his support for any endeavor of the Government to encourage sports in the state.

Dr.Cheema had an open discussion with all the A.E.O.s overseeing the sports activities of the Education department as part of the initiative of the Government to give a boost to academic as well as extra co-curricular activities throughout the schools of the state. It was also decided in the deliberations to associate renowed players with the schools in the state.

Dr.Cheema gave instructions that in the 2921 middle schools of the state special attention should be paid to attract 146000 children of young age towards sports and they should be given training according to their aptitude. He also asked All the A.E.Os to associate former Olympians and international players in order to efficiently run the sports centres at tehsil/district level.

He also asked all the physical education teachers to make students take part in sports activities 20 minutes prior to the opening of schools. In such schools where, there is no physical education teacher available, physical education teacher of nearest school will perform this task. In addition to this, he also asked the detailed report of sports wings in the schools so as to review their performance.

He also assured the school heads of his unstinted support to the school sports wings. Prominent among others who were present in the meeting included Principal Secretary C Roul, DGSE Pardeep Aggarwal, DPI (SE) Balbir Singh, DPI (EE) Darshan Kaur, Deputy Director (Sports) Sarabjit Singh Toor, ASPD Dr. Ginni Duggal, Field Organiser Ragubir Singh and Dr. Gian Singh.
