DR KS Sekhon joins as Director, PAU’s Regional Research Station, Bathinda
Dr KS Sekhon, presently working as Principal Soil Physicist in All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) (Irrigation Water Management) at PAU’s Regional Research Station (RRS), Bathinda, has been appointed as Director, RRS, Bathinda.
Ludhiana: Dr KS Sekhon, presently working as Principal Soil Physicist in All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) (Irrigation Water Management) at PAU’s Regional Research Station (RRS), Bathinda, has been appointed as Director, RRS, Bathinda. He has 17 years of research experience and 10 years of extension experience in the field of soil science and water management. His area of specialization is irrigation water management with main focus on irrigation scheduling in different crops, resource conservation technologies, and conjunctive use of poor and good quality waters in different field, vegetable, horticultural and forest crops. He has accomplished different adhoc projects like Scaling up of Water Productivity in Agriculture for Livelihoods through Teaching-cum-Demonstrations; Training of Trainers and Farmers, Implementation of Farmers Participatory Action Research Programme; and Centre of Excellence (COE) for utilization of brackish water for fruit and vegetable production in South-Western Punjab (NHM).
In addition, Dr Sekhon has published 44 research papers in journals of national and international repute, presented 76 research papers in workshops/symposia, 73 extension articles, four training compendium on water management, three research bulletins, etc. He has also been actively involved in the development of 20 recommendations for farmers developed on the basis of research on different aspects on irrigation and nutrient management, which have been included in the Package of Practices of kharif crops, vegetable crops, forestry and fruit crops of PAU. Besides, he is actively involved in disseminating university recommendations to the farmers to get potential yield of crops and for efficient management of natural resources through organizing farmers’ trainings on different aspects of water management (95) and other disciplines, in-service trainings (09), field days (40), TV talks (06), Radio talks (88), lectures delivered in field days/trainings (314), adaptive research trials (359), front line/field demonstrations of different crops and technologies (314), method demonstrations (202) and Regional Kisan Melas (50). He has served as In-charge of AICRP (IWM) Bathinda Centre since 2018, site-incharge of COE for brackish water management since 2013 and incharge of soil-water testing laboratory at RRS, Bathinda. He has guided 7 M.Sc. students of Soil Science discipline as Major Advisor. He has also actively participated in the establishment of Institute of Agriculture, Bathinda in the capacity of class incharge, advisor of undergraduate, course teacher and convenor of academic and other committees.
