Dr O.P Kalra appointed as VC of Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak

Chandigarh, May 15, 2015: Haryana Governor and Chancellor, Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki has appointed Dr O.P Kalra, Principal Professor of Medicine, Head, Division of Nephrology, University College of Medical Sciences (University of Delhi) G.T.B. Hospital, Delhi as Vice-Chancellor of Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak for a period of three years or till he attains the age of 68 years whichever is earlier with effect from the date he assumes the charge of his office.

+     Extremely devoted, sincere, hardworking, honest medical teacher and medical administrator with vision for developing state of the art centers of education in medical and allied health sciences

·         Principal of a leading medical college in the Capital City of Delhi for the last 8 years, which has factual rank No.1 in the country out of survey of nearly 400 medical colleges and is a constituent college of University of Delhi.

·      Administrative experience as Principal of the Medical College for more than 8 years. Also worked as Medical Superintendent of the associated 1700 bedded GTB Hospital and Rajiv Gandhi Super-specialty Hospital. During this period, there has been massive increase in training capacity at MBBS level (by 50%) and at PG level (by nearly 200%). In addition, there has been marked increase in the research grants (8 fold) and scientific publications from the College.

BD Sharma Postgraduate of Medical Sciences (erstwhile Medical College and Hospital, Rohtak) for nearly four-and-a-half years during the years 1984-1988. I have upgraded the Dialysis Unit during my stay. I have also been outside expert Faculty of Medical Sciences, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana and have been frequently invited for faculty selections in various medical colleges in Haryana and for university examinations at Rohtak. Born and brought up in Panipat, Haryana where I received Pre-University Education for 12 years culminating in state level merit scholarship.

+      Experience of closely interacting with various ministries and autonomous bodies concerned with medical education, such as Medical Council of India, Dental Council of India, Pharmacy Council of India, Delhi State Medical Council, National Board of Examinations, University Grants Commission, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, Govt. of NCT of Delhi and University of Delhi.

·        Held Senior positions in various bodies such as, Chairman, PG Committee, Medical Council of India; Member, UG Committee, Medical Council of India, Member, Pharmacy Council of India, Member, Governing Body, National Board of Examinations, Chairman, Disciplinary Committee, Delhi Medical Council, Chairman, various committees, University Grants Commission and Programme Advisory Committee of Department of Science and Technology, Department of Bio-technology and Indian Council of Medical Research, Association of Physicians of India and Indian Society of Nephrology.

Dialysis Centres in Delhi have been developed to provide cost effective hemodialysis under Public Private Partnership in various Delhi Govt.
