Seven more rescued on day 2 in Nawanshahr
Nawanshahar, January 1, 2022: In order to safeguard the interests and rights of minors and children, District Child Protection Unit SBS Nagar with task force again carried out raids in its ongoing drive of Anti child begging and labour at different prominent places (Geeta Bhawan Chowk, Kothi Road, Lal Chowk).
Divulging the details, District Child Protection Officer, Ms Kanchan Arora said that during the raid, two ladies were found indulging in begging along with their four small kids (having age from 1 to 2 year). They were rescued and produced before the Child Welfare Committee where mothers were counseled and strictly warned to not to repeat this again. Further as children were not of school going age, so they would be enrolled with Anganwadi centers by next week.
Apart from that, three more children were found selling cotton candys, socks and some other material. They were also rescued and families were traced thereafter. On being enquired, none of them was found enrolled with any school. Moreover, children were not ready to go to school. All these children and their families were counseled and they agreed to send their children to school. DCPO said that their admission would be done by next week to start their study. All the rescued children (except one, who was given to an eligible person as his parents were not present) were handed over to their families after verification of documents and with orders of the Child Welfare Committee. Further process has also been initiated to cover them under the Sponsorship scheme, added DCPO.
