Driving test tracks to start operating from June 1: STC
One has to pre- book time and date for giving the driving test
Chandigarh: The Punjab Government has launched an online system for the facilitation of the citizens to pre-book time and date for giving the driving test to obtain a regular driving licence.
It was disclosed by Dr. Amarpal Singh, State Transport Commissioner in a press note released here today. He said that now a person will be able to give the test as per the booking only and the powers of the officials to take a test as per their discretion has been withdrawn. He said that anybody missing the appointment will have to re-book it again. STC said that jumping the queue or adjusting a person without booking will not be possible. He said that this will prevent exploitation of the public.
Dr. Amarpal Singh further said that another feature which has been enabled is that the result of the test and processing of the licence will have to be initiated on the same day. The slots which will be available at each track have been limited to 40 to ensure social distancing in light of COVID19. For further facilitation of the public now the person will be able to choose any of the tracks to give his test within the district rather than only one earlier.
STC said that regarding Learner Licence the earlier procedure shall continue with the public able to obtain the same from more than 500 SEVA KENDRAS and RTA/ SDM offices.
"No late fee will be charged for renewal of all documents issued under the Motor Vehicle Act 1988 including the Driving Licenses which expired from February 2020 onwards." added State Transport Commissioner.
