Dr.Santosh Kumar Upadhyay conferred for INSA Associate-Fellow of Indian National Science Academy
Dr.Santosh Kumar Upadhyay, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Panjab University has been conferred for INSA Associate-Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, the most prestigious science academy of the country.
Chandigarh, September 13, 2023: Dr.Santosh Kumar Upadhyay, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Panjab University has been conferred for INSA Associate-Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, the most prestigious science academy of the country.
The INSA Associate-Fellowship is given to a young scientist working in India and made notable contributions to any branch of science or technology, recognized by the Academy. As per the citation given by INSA, this fellowship is given to Dr.Upadhyayfor his contribution in the research area of Agricultural Biotechnology for the characterization of defense-related proteins of lower plants and bread wheat. One of the protein identified by him has been used for the development of whitefly-resistant transgenic cotton. Earlier, he has also reported siRNA machinery in whitefly and demonstrated RNAi-mediated control of whiteflies using numerous gene targets. At the Panjab University, he has identified and characterized various defense and development-related genes in bread wheat, established CRISPR-Cas mediated genome editing and developed a freeware for target prediction.
The felicitation will be held in the Anniversary General Meeting of INSA in December 2023.
