Ludhiana, May 13, 2024: Renowned Punjabi poet and Padma Shri awardee, Dr. Surjit Patar was cremated with full state honours on Monday at the crematorium in Model Town Extension, here.
The funeral procession started from his residence in Asha Puri, Ludhiana, and was attended by family members, close friends, literary fraternity, and literature lovers. Leaders across party lines, a large number of well-wishers, and relatives from all over the country also bid farewell to the late poet.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also paid his tribute to Dr. Patar by laying a wreath.
A unit of the Punjab Police presented guard of honour to the eminent Punjabi writer and poet at the cremation ground. The funeral pyre was lit by Dr. Patar's sons, Ankur Singh Patar and Manraj Singh Patar.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Major Amit Sareen from the district administration and Director of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Neeru Katyal also laid wreaths to pay their last respects to the departed soul.
