Jalandhar, August 3, 2023: Van Mahotsav is an annual tree planting festival celebrated throughout India to honour and pay respect to the mighty creators and the lungs of Mother Earth.


DRV DAV Centenary Public School, Phillaur celebrates it with high spirit and energy every year under the plantation drive- Jan Jan Ko Jgana Hai, Pedh Paudhe Lgana Hai. Every year, as a part of celebration, school has been giving many saplings to the children and the teachers. This motive was taken to educate and make a habit for the children to respect and care for the plants.

This year the day was observed on the 2nd August. And to make it more grand and impactful District Forest Officer, Jarnail Singh Bath and Block Forest Officer, Phillaur Tarsem Singh alongwith their team members Forest Guards Deepak Kumar, Malkit Singh and Jugraj Singh became part of the drive. The programme commenced with the spirited choreography of class V students on the theme "Think green, act green, live green." Then there was a speech rendered by Partishtha, student of class X. Her words of encouragement to plant saplings had a great effect on everyone present. She expressed the importance of planting trees and their socio-economic effects. Several hazardous problems or issues created by the deforestation was highlighted through this speech.

DFO Jarnail Singh Bath appreciated the efforts of students and staff and encouraged students to preserve trees which play a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance. He added that it is the responsibility of each citizen to not only grow but also taking care and protecting them. He also emphasized the importance of start taking small steps to bring a bigger change. He donated 100 saplings to the school and also informed the students about the e- Hariyali app so that they can contribute in the drive too by planting on their special days and occasions. Principal Dr. Yogesh Gambhir expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the officer and his team to create awareness among masses for forest conservation and planting trees. He also appreciated the efforts of the tiny-tots in spreading the message “Each One Plant One’’.
