ECI prohibits engaging of children in election activities

Nawanshahr, February 8, 2022: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has strictly prohibited engagement of children in any kind of election activities.
Disclosing further details, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Vishesh Sarangal directed all political parties and candidates to strictly adhere to the ECI’s directions for not using children in any sort of election related works including distribution of pamphlets, posters or participate in slogan shouting, campaign rallies, election meetings and etc.
Sarangal said it is responsibility of leaders/candidates belonging to all the political parties to ensure that there is no violation of these instructions and necessary action would be taken against erring political parties/candidates.
He said that Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 has banned the employment of children below the age of 14 in specified occupation including transport of goods and others which are harmful and unsafe for them. He further administration is committed for the protection of the rights of children and would keep a close watch in the district.
