ECI stops six month advance distribution of food grains to blue card holders

Chandigarh, March 24, 2014: The Election Commission of India today issued directions to Punjab Government to immediately stop distribution of six months ration of food grains in advance to eligible Blue Card Holders.
According to an official spokesman of ECI, Commission has directed that food grain ration only of current month entitlement can be distributed to the beneficiaries only through the normal mechanism of fair price shops, so that beneficiaries can buy their entitlement of food grain at any time they wish. He cautioned no food supply inspector or political functionary should be allowed for the distribution of food grains.
