'Eco-mela': MLA Gogi, MC Commissioner Dachalwal felicitate winners and participants of painting competitions; 'Waste to Art' stalls, cultural event fascinates residents on the second day 

The two-day Eco-mela organised by Municipal Corporation (MC) Ludhiana under 'Swachhta Hi Sewa' campaign concluded at Nehru Rose Garden on Sunday with Ludhiana West MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi and Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal felicitating the winners and participants of the painting competitions held during the mela.

Ludhiana, September 22, 2024: The two-day Eco-mela organised by Municipal Corporation (MC) Ludhiana under 'Swachhta Hi Sewa' campaign concluded at Nehru Rose Garden on Sunday with Ludhiana West MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi and Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal felicitating the winners and participants of the painting competitions held during the mela.
     
Cultural events and 'Waste to Art' stalls fascinated the residents on the second day of the mela on Sunday. EO GLADA Ankur Mahindroo and MC Assistant Commissioner-cum-Zonal Commissioner (Zone D) Jasdev Singh Sekhon also participated in the mela on the second day.

MC Assistant Commissioner Sekhon said that the mela was organised on the directions of MC Commissioner Dachalwal and the aim of the mela was to spread awareness among the residents regarding reduce, reuse and recycle the waste. 'Waste to Art' stalls were also installed on the second day of the mela to display different techniques to recycle/reuse the waste. Stalls were also installed to encourage home composting of wet household waste.

Jeet Foundation, Helping Hands club, Kreative Enterprises, Nature's friend, Ganesh Herbals, Rotaract Club of Ludhiana, Bhai Ghanaiya Ji Self Help group among others installed their stalls to spread awareness among residents during the mela. 

The cultural performances were presented by Ashke dance academy and a group of students also performed a 'Nukkad Natak' to spread awareness among residents regarding cleanliness and solid waste management. Students of 

Over 500 students participated in the painting competitions held for different age groups on the first day of the mela on Saturday. The winners and participants of the competitions were felicitated with certificates by MLA Gogi and MC Commissioner Dachalwal on Sunday. Teachers of the participating students were also felicitated. 

Around two dozen safai karamcharis of MC Ludhiana were also honoured with appreciation certificates and stainless steel water bottles under 'Swachhta Hi Sewa' campaign. The employees were selected on the basis of their efforts under the cleanliness drives being organised across the city.

Later, MLA Gogi and MC Commissioner Dachalwal appealed to the residents to support the authorities in keeping the city clean and green. The residents were also appealed to stop dumping waste in vacant plots/open areas and to hand over segregated dry and wet waste to the garbage collectors. 
 
MC Health Officer Vipal Malhotra, CDO Maheshwar among other officials also participated in the mela.
