Educational Visit to Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nurmahal by Students and Faculty of Zoology and Botany Department

Jalandhar, March 17, 2025: Department of Zoology and Botany of Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar organized an educational visit to Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nurmahal. The visit comprised of a group of 34 students accompanied by the faculty members Dr. Gagandeep Kaur (HOD), Dr. Heminder Singh and Dr. Surbjit Singh. The objective of the visit was to strengthen the students’ understanding of the role of science and technology in agriculture and bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical field applications. Principal Dr. Suman Chopra expressed appreciation for the efforts of the faculty members and highlighted the importance of such visits in enhancing students' understanding of the practical aspects of biological sciences and agriculture. The principal emphasized that these experiential learning opportunities are vital in equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to address real-world challenges. During the visit, the students received practical exposure to modern agricultural practices and scientific advancements in the field of farming and allied activities. They were given a detailed overview of various agricultural techniques, including beekeeping, vermicomposting, goat rearing, integrated poultry and fish farming, organic farming, crop management, soil testing and integrated pest management. Experts at KVK demonstrated the use of modern farming equipment and sustainable agricultural practices. Dr. Balvir Kaur, Assistant Professor, Horticulture briefing about the services provided by KVKs. Dr. Rohit Gupta, Assistant Professor, Animal Sciences demonstrated integrated farming system models and Dr. Harvinder Singh, Assistant Professor, Plant Protection gave a brief demonstration on vermicomposting and beekeeping as subsidiary occupation. The visit proved to be highly beneficial for the students, providing them with a deeper understanding of the practical aspects of agriculture and its connection to biological sciences. The students got an opportunity to interact with agricultural scientists and farmers, gaining valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities in the agricultural sector. The faculty members expressed their gratitude to the KVK staff for their informative sessions and hospitality. Dr. Gagandeep Kaur said that the department remains committed to organizing such educational visits in the future to enhance students’ learning experiences and encourage interdisciplinary knowledge exchange.
