Newcomers Rachana Parulkar & Shirina Singh to play the adult Kalpi and Pooki respectively
Does anyone ever need to ‘earn’ their mother’s love? Well, Kamala Bai’s daughter Kalpana believes she must! After all, it isn’t easy to have your mother constantly away, serving as a domestic help in someone else’s house and taking care of another child instead of you. In Zee TV’s Ek Muthi Aasman,  Kamala Bai (Shilpa Shirodkar) barely manages any time for her own daughter Kalpana as she must manage all the daily chores at the Kapoor household and tend to their daughter Pooki as if she were her own. Naturally, this makes young Kalpana jealous of Pooki and the attention she receives from her mother.
Fast forward to 10 years down the line as the show is all set to take a leap … Rachana Parulkar who played Saawri in Zee TV’s hit primetime drama Saat Phere enters ‘Ek Mutthi Aasman’ as the adult Kalpana and newcomer Shirina Singh is roped in to play the adult Pooki. It turns out that all the time spent in Kamala’s care has resulted in Pooki shaping up to be a lot more like Kamala than her own daughter Kalpana! They think alike, share the same values and mannerisms. Kalpana, who has stayed away from her mother, is aware of this and continues to strive hard to prove herself to her mother and be worthy of her love and attention.
While the tiff between Pooki & Kalpi continues over Kamala Bai’s love and attention, actor Ashish Chowdhry enters the show as a mysterious Mr. Singhania whose intentions and motivations aren’t clear to the audience at the outset! A sharp, jet-setting, young achiever, this business tycoon seems to be out to get the Kapoors and springs to Kamala Bai and Kalpi’s aid every now and then.
About his return to television, Ashish says, “It’s great to be back on television – the place I started off from. After the success of Double Dhamaal, the kind of films I have been offered have been largely comedy. Television, on the other hand, has come of age when it comes to portrayal of characters .. there are author-backed roles today with good amount of detailing and layering. So when it was time to come back, the kind of roles that I was offered on television gave me plenty of variety to pick from. So, the character of Singhania I play on Zee TV’s ‘Ek Mutthi Aasman’ is a role I have chosen from amongst many others. I liked the kind of intensity and range of emotion the character exudes. He adds “Singhania is an ad man … and as you probably know, I am on the board of a well-established creative and media agency Curry Nation. My father has always been a part of the mad ad world himself. So, the world this character inhabits isn’t alien at all …Let’s hope the character and the track clicks with the audience!”

Post leap, there’s a lot brewing on ‘Ek Mutthi Aasman’ … what is Singhania’s broader agenda? Does he have a score to settle with the Kapoors? How have they wronged him in the past?  Will his entry into the lives of Kalpi and Pooki change the dynamics of their relationship forever?
All of this and more will unfold as ‘Ek Muthi Aasman’ takes a 10 year leap on 19th November …
To find out, stay tuned to Ek Mutthi Aasman, Monday to Friday, at 7 pm only on Zee TV.
