'Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath': MLAs, residents come together for 'Shramdaan'; pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by participating in 'swachhta' drives organised across the city
In a bid to encourage 'swachhta' and pay tribute (swachhanjali) to father of the nation - Mahatma Gandhi on his 154th birth anniversary, city MLAs, residents and civic body staffers came together for 'Shramdaan' (voluntary labour) and participated in the cleanliness drives organised across the city on Sunday morning.
Ludhiana, October 1, 2023: In a bid to encourage 'swachhta' and pay tribute (swachhanjali) to father of the nation - Mahatma Gandhi on his 154th birth anniversary, city MLAs, residents and civic body staffers came together for 'Shramdaan' (voluntary labour) and participated in the cleanliness drives organised across the city on Sunday morning.
Around 5500 residents/students/NGO members and MC staffers participated in the cleanliness drives organised by Municipal Corporation (MC) under the nationwide 'Swachhta' campaign - 'Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath' launched to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu, MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, MLA Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal and MLA Hardeep Singh Mundian also participated in the drives.
Working on the directions of MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi, cleanliness drives were organised in each of the 95 wards of the city and residents were urged to keep their surroundings clean.
'Plastic free' events were organised across the city to discourage the residents from using banned plastic carry bags and single use plastic items.
Atam Nagar MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu,alongwith Joint Commissioner Ankur Mahindroo participated in the cleanliness drive organised in Nirmal nagar near railway crossing. While Ludhiana West MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi participated in the cleanliness drive organised in Rishi Nagar and adjoining areas.
Similarly, Ludhiana East MLA Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal participated in the drive organised on Tibba road, while Sahnewal MLA Hardeep Singh Mundian along with Joint Commissioner Sonam Chaudhary participated in the cleanliness drive organised in ward number 26.

and students also launched an awareness drive from the Basant park area to discourage the residents from using banned single use plastic items. Students of Khalsa College for Women, Government College for Girls and SCD Government college also participated in the awareness drive.
MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi, Additional Commissioner Paramdeep Singh and Joint Commissioner Ankur Mahindroo stated that the cleanliness drives were organised under the banner of 'Swachhta hi Seva' and Swachh Bharat mission.
MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi applauded the residents, NGOs, students and MC staffers for participating in the cleanliness drives. He stated that it is the need of the time that everyone should join hands to improve solid waste management and keep the city clean. More such drives would be organised in the coming time and the civic body appeals to the residents to support the authorities in keeping the city clean and green.
