Ludhiana, August 25, 2022: On the coming Teachers’ Day, on 5th of September, 2022, Offset Printers’ Association (OPA) decided to felicitate eminent pedagogue who devoted their life for the growth and development of printing in India and now globally specially in the field of Printing education.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Pankaj Tiwari, Chairman Department of Printing at G J University of Science & Technology said, whatever we are today is only due to the firm roots, it is therefore to acknowledge the roots of development of printing in India, I am glad that OPA took up this initiative. He said, no effort was ever made to recognize the teachers responsible for the revolution in printing in India and to remember the contribution of the masters of this great art, he thanked OPA for this momentous effort.
Printing is considered to be the biggest invention of mankind till date and has a long and vast history, printing existed centuries before Christ. The Cuneiform, one of the earliest known writing systems developed in Sumer (modern day Iraq). Wedge-shaped marks were made on clay tablets by a blunt stylus cut from a reed are known during 3100 BC. Going in history we also know that Papyrus plant that is paper-like material was used as a writing surface in Egypt and Ink from lamp-black made in China was in use during 3000 BC.
Earlier giving the details, Prof. Kamal Mohan Chopra said that, he can assure that Printing will not lose its importance even during the centuries to come. However, the technology – method of printing may change, but printing will remain always. He added that we must be thankful to the roots of Printing, the known and unknown technicians, researchers and teachers who fine-tuned this art to use it according to the changing times. It is the duty of present generation to feel obliged and recognise these unsung heroes of the industry. This initiative is to honour the Print Gurus, who shaped the state of art, globally recognised Indian print industry by putting their best. This is a humble initiative to recognise and remember them for years to come and make aware new generation print technocrats for real print gurus of our own.
Being the most active printers association of India, and considering it as a moral responsibility, OPA took up the challenge to ‘Acknowledge the Roots’ of printing in India. The teachers who with their determination and will power have trained the technicians who transformed the printing history of India. Recognising the talent of such luminaries ensures that others in the field get inspired from them and strive hard to reach their goals. It is decided to felicitate the following eminent print teachers on 5th of September, 2022 at Deendayal Upadhyaya Convention Centre, DCR University of Science & Technology, Murthal.
