Eminent Punjabi poet Gurbhajan Singh Gill to be honored with Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra Award by Sikh Educational Society
Ludhiana, November 13, 2021: The Sikh Educational Society, which manages school and college institutions in Chandigarh, Banga and Kadian has announced to honor Punjabi Writer and the Chairman of Punjabi Lok Virasat Academy- Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill with the Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra Memorial Award for the year 2021.
Col (Retd) Jasmer Singh Bala, Secretary, Sikh Educational Society, while disclosing this said that the award was established in the memory of Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra, a former president .The award is given annually to two such eminent personalities who bring significant contribution in Sikh religion, society, Punjabiat or any other important field.
Colonel (Retd) Bala said that the award includes commemorative certification, a shawl and a token cash prize of rupees One lakh.
Keeping in view the robust and dedicated dedicated services of Gurbhajan Gill for propagation of Punjabi literature and culture, the decision to present this award has been taken under the chairmanship of Mr. Gurdev Singh IAS (Retd), president of Sikh Educational Society.The award giving function will be held on 27th November(Saturday)at 10 am at Sardar Hari Singh Nalva Hall of Shri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, Chandigarh.
Col.(Retd) Jasmer Singh Bala while announcing the award proudly opined that Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill is a capable and an active Punjabi poet, a literary commentator, a science literature editor and also very active personality in the field of sports.
Gurbhajan Gill remained President of Punjabi Sahitya Akademi Ludhiana from 2010 to 2014.Besides having been an active executive of Prof. Mohan Singh Foundation since 1978 he has been instrumental in organizing the rural sports at Qila Raipur, Gujjarwal (Ludhiana) and played an active role in organizing Kamaljit Memorial Sports at Kotla Shahia (Gurdaspur) from time to time.Prof.Gill was the Senior Editor at the Punjab Agricultural University from April 30, 1983 to May 31, 2013.Prior to this he taught at Guru Nanak National College, Doraha and Lajpat Rai Memorial College, Jagraon (Ludhiana) for over 6 years. After retiring from Punjab Agriculture University, he also served as Director (Planning and Development) at Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo (Bathinda) for some time.

Currently, he is a Chairman of Maharaja Duleep Singh Memorial Trust, Bassian-Raikot (Ludhiana), S. Sobha Singh Memorial Foundation- Sri Hargobindpur (Gurdaspur), Olympian Surjit Sports Association, Batala and Punjabi Lok Virasat Academy. All these organizations are promoting Punjabiyat and Punjabi language relentlessly.
