Enactus PU and Versatile Group Ludhiana distributed sanitary napkins in slums on World Menstrual Hygiene Day
In a dedicated effort to promote menstrual hygiene and health awareness, Enactus team of Panjab University in collaboration with Versatile Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. Ludhiana organized a cloth based sanitary napkin distribution drive in the slum areas of Chandigarh& Ludhiana on World Menstrual Hygiene Day. The distribution drive aimed to empower women and girls in underserved communities by providing them with free sanitary napkins and educating them on menstrual hygiene management, conveyed Prof.Seema Kapoor, Faculty advisor of Enactus team.
Chandigarh, May 29, 2024: In a dedicated effort to promote menstrual hygiene and health awareness, Enactus team of Panjab University in collaboration with Versatile Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. Ludhiana organized a cloth based sanitary napkin distribution drive in the slum areas of Chandigarh& Ludhiana on World Menstrual Hygiene Day. The distribution drive aimed to empower women and girls in underserved communities by providing them with free sanitary napkins and educating them on menstrual hygiene management, conveyed Prof.Seema Kapoor, Faculty advisor of Enactus team.
This significant initiative saw enthusiastic participation from volunteers and community members. Alongside the distribution of around 4000 sanitary napkins, interactive sessions were held to educate women and girls about menstrual hygiene practices, dispel myths and encourage open conversations about menstruation, ensuring that the attendees left with a better understanding of menstrual health, said Geetanjali, CSR Coordinator, Versatile group.
In addition to the on-ground activities, Versatile Group, under its project Amodini, organized a virtual session on menstrual health in collaboration with the Enactus team.This interactive session, conducted by Dr.NeelamSodhi, focused on the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation. Dr.Sodhi provided an overview of menstruation as a biological process, while Geetanjali discussed the availability of different sanitary products, maintaining menstrual hygiene, and the use and disposal of sanitary products. She also emphasized simple ways to maintain environmental hygiene by using reusable pads. Dr.Sodhi addressed the girls' queries and debunked myths about menstruation.
Prof. Kapoor expressed gratitude to Arun Seth, Managing Director of Versatile Group, for collaborating with the Enactus team under Project Amodini and for the free distribution of cost-effective and eco-friendly reusable pads in the slums of Chandigarh and Ludhiana. Shri Seth stated, "Access to menstrual hygiene products is a basic right and we are committed to making a difference in the lives of those who need it most."
