Enactus Team of Panjab University illuminates Nayagaon with financial literacy and healthcare workshop on eve of Republic Day
Chandigarh, January 25, 2024: In the spirit of Republic Day celebrations, Enactus team of Panjab University spearheaded an impactful Workshop on Financial Literacy and Menstrual Health & Hygiene for underprivileged ladies at Nayagaon today in collaboration with Developing Indigenous Resources-India (DIR-India), Versatile Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. and Corporate Sustainability Council, Women's Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CSC WICCI), Chandigarh. This initiative was part of Enactus's commitment to community empowerment and the workshop aimed to bridge gaps in financial understanding and healthcare awareness, said Prof.Seema Kapoor, Faculty Advisor, Enactus and State Vice president of CSC WICCI, Chandigarh.
The workshop featured distinguished speakers, Prof. Monika Aggarwal, Director, University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS), P.U.and Dr. Asha Katoch, CEO, DIR-India delivering insights into financial literacy and menstrual health, respectively, told Aditi Prakash, Vice President.
Prof. Monika Aggarwal shared her expertise in financial literacy, emphasizing the importance of informed financial decision-making. The workshop provided practical insights into managing finances wisely, understanding government policies including Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Mudra Yojana and making informed investment choices.
Dr. Asha Katoch addressed the menstrual health and hygiene topic and guided the participants for the safe use of eco-friendly cloth based sanitary napkins. She told that the vaginal diseases are due to unhygienic environment and poor personal hygiene during menstrual cycle. The cloth pads prevent the vaginal skin against infections and rashes.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from more than 100 underprivileged ladies from the slums of Adarsh Nagar & Safeda Nagar, Nayagaon along with the staff of DIR-India eager to enhance their understanding of financial management and healthcare practices, told Anmol, Creative Head of Enactus team. Reusable cloth based sanitary napkinsdeveloped under CSR project Amodini of Versatile Group, Ludhiana and Uday project of Enactus were distributed among menstruating women and girls during the workshop, sponsored by an alumnus of1976 batch of Dr. SSB University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology, P.U., conveyed Mahi, Project Director of Enactus team. Aarzoo Dhiman, Vice President of Enactus team conveyed that it was heartening to see the community's active participation and eagerness to learn. She said that Financial literacy is a tool for empowerment and healthcare knowledge is essential for overall well-being.
The workshop concluded with participants expressing gratitude for the valuable information received. Shubham Dhiman, President of Enactus team said that Republic Day is a day to reflect on our responsibilities towards building a strong and empowered nation. He said that the team contributes to the larger goal of inclusive and sustainable development through workshops like these.
