Enactus Team of PU joins hands with Versatile Group, Ludhiana & DIR-India for Amenstrual Health Workshop at Nayagaon

Chandigarh May 2, 2024: Enactus team of Panjab University along with Versatile Group, Ludhiana and Developing Indigenous Resources-India (DIR-India), Nayagaon organized a Workshop on Menstrual Health &Hygiene under Mytharche Series at DIR building, followed by a door to door cloth based sanitary napkins distribution drive, with the aim of addressing menstrual hygiene challenges and supporting women's health, conveyed Prof. Seema Kapoor, Faculty Advisor, Enactus.

This initiative is segmented under Project “Uday” of Enactus team and CSR project “Amodini” of Versatile Group, aiming to foster menstrual health and empower women. The event was honoured by the presence of Dr. Vivek Trivedi, Social Development Officer, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, GeeruSood, Community Organizer, MCC and Ayush Chaturvedi, Consultant, Project Management Unit, MCC. DrAshaKatoch, CEO of DIR-India, led a menstrual hygiene management training session as part of the event, which raised awareness and provided valuable information to women and girls of slums of Nayagaon, enabling them to maintain good menstrual health practices, told Kiran Manra, Vice-President of Enactus team.

Dr. Vivekwas very impressed by this collaborative projectof cloth based sanitary napkins and said that MCC will soon initiate this project in Dhanas, Chandigarh as it is helping in environmental sustainability as well as women empowerment.

Sood assured that she will help the ladies working under this project to train other ladies under various self-help groups of Chandigarh to scale the project and also help in the promotion of cloth based sanitary napkins, as it is the need of the day. Ayush sensitized the participants about the water pollution that results with dumping of plastic pads and supported the idea of cloth based pads.

The event vehemently fulfilled team Enactus’ objectives of mass education and awareness regarding feminine hygiene and advocating the use of cloth based sanitary napkins instead of plastic based pads, said Namya, Executive member, Enactus. By providing sanitary napkins to those in need, the event seeked to alleviate the challenges faced by many women and girls in managing their menstruation with dignity and confidence and contributed in breaking the stigmas surrounding menstruation, stated Aarzoo Dhiman, Vice-President of Enactus team.
