Chandigarh, May 25, 2019: The graduates of Panjab University, Chandigarh in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology during the year 2018 wore the graduation gowns during the degree award ceremony held here today in the University Auditorium.

Total of 863 passed out students of three engineering institutes of PU namely University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET),Chandigarh, Dr.S.S.Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (Dr SSBUICET), Panjab University Chandigarhand and UIET UIET Swami Sarvanand Giri Panjab University Regional Centre (SSGPURC) in, Hoshiarpur were awarded the degrees by Prof. V.K. Malhotra, Member secretary, Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi. Prof. R.K. Sinha, Director, CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organization, Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.

The degrees were awarded to 591 graduates and post graduates from UIET Chandigarh, 162 BE graduates of SSGPURC Hoshiarpur, 162 graduates and post graduates of Dr SSBUICET Chandigarh.

11 number of Young Assistant Professors and Research Scholars from UIET Chandigarh, 4 from Dr SSBUICET Chandigarh and 3 from SSGPURC, Hoshiarpur who published their research work in reputed journals during the last year were also honoured on the occasion.

Prof. V.K. Malhotra, chief guest of the day, delivered the convocation address on the occasion. He emphasized on pursuance of excellence to bring India on the forefronts of technology to provide solutions for mankind. He urged students to reach at par with top performing universities internationally. He stressed on the need for increasing funding for research as well as higher education which should be atleast 2-2.5% of the nation’s GDP. He concluded his address by saying that students must possess relevant skill sets along with an urge to learn to enhance their employment prospects.

Earlier, Prof Raj Kumar, Vice chancellor welcomed the chief guest and extended felicitations to the students and wished them good luck for their future. He addressed the students as the future ambassadors of the institute as well as the country. He narrated contributions of technological development in the region and appreciated the accomplishments of young graduates at various platforms. He emphasized that the students should be the providers of jobs and they should deliver in spite of all the hardships. He congratulated all the graduates and urged them to work hard for their bright future.
