Ludhiana, September 27, 2024: In preparedness of the upcoming Paddy Procurement season from October 1, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal on Friday instructed the officials of the Food, Civil and Supplies and Mandi Board to quickly make all necessary arrangements in grain markets and temporary yards to ensure smooth purchase of paddy.

Jorwal emphasized the importance of proper cleanliness, availability of gunny bags, drinking water, sheds, lighting, fans, and urinals at every grain market and temporary yard to facilitate the farmers bringing their produce to the markets. The district administration has 108 grain markets and 38 temporary yards.

During a meeting with Additional Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Bains, District Food and Supplies Controller Geeta Bishambu, Shefali Chopra, District Managers of all procurement agencies, and food inspectors of Ludhiana to review preparations for the Kharif Marketing Season, the Deputy Commissioner stressed that farmers and Arhtiyas should not encounter any difficulties.

He emphasized the immediate procurement of paddy from farmers who bring their crops to the market and urged all efforts to facilitate timely payment to the farmers after the purchase by the agencies.

Jorwal also asked all Sub Divisional Magistrates to visit the grain markets under their jurisdiction daily to ensure smooth procurement operations and to address any problems faced by farmers in selling their harvest. Detailed interactions with the officers revealed that elaborate arrangements had been made for the procurement in the district.

Jorwal also urged farmers to dry their paddy before bringing it to mandis to streamline the purchasing process and avoid unnecessary delays.
