Expresses displeasure over slow pace of works
Ludhiana: Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu on Wednesday directed the officials of Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL) to ensure that ongoing development works were completed in a time-bound and result-oriented manner so that maximum people were benefitted from it.
Expressing displeasure over the slow pace of some projects at the MC D-zone office, the Cabinet Minister accompanied by MLA Kuldeep Singh Vaid, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, MC commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, MC Councillor Mamta Ashu, reviewed the ongoing development works and schemes of the state government and said that functioning of MCL needed to be streamlined and everything must be in the timeline.
He added that officials must have accountability and proper clarity about the status of the works they have been assigned.
He said that the works like Integrated Command and Control Centre, Slaughterhouse, carcass plant, solid waste management, National Clean Air Programme, C&D, Basera, workshop of MC vehicles, and others worth several crores of rupees were underway but the execution was the cause of concern.
The Cabinet Minister also said that the performance of the officials in removing dumps around Buddha Nullah, illegal colonies, formation of park management committees, distribution of works was also not satisfactory.
He directed them to make field visits daily to supervise the works at the ground to ensure transparency, use of quality material by the contractors, and speedy completion.
Ashu asked the officials to accord topmost priority to these works so that benefits of the development projects of the state government were percolated to the people at the grass-root level.
The Cabinet Minister said major push needed to be given to these projects for ensuring holistic development of the city on modern lines.
He said the officials should dedicatedly work to make sure that the underprivileged and weaker stratum of society avails the benefits of state government’s policies like the Basera scheme.
