Entrepreneurial Development Programme on ‘Packaging of fresh and processed food products’ concludes at ICAR-CIPHET
Ludhiana, December 1, 2018: ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology, Ludhiana conducted a three-day Entrepreneurial Development Programme on ‘Packaging of fresh and processed food products’ from November 26-28, 2018 to train aspiring entrepreneurs in packaging technologies for fresh and processed food commodities. Increased demand for convenient, hygienic and quality food products in both urban and rural households has led to greater demand for skill development and entrepreneurship in the packaging sector. This is further necessitated by different packaging requirements for different food products as per their physiological activity. The programme aimed to impart hands-on training and upgrade the technical skills of the budding entrepreneurs in, packaging, food safety and quality control. Special emphasis was given to train the participants in packaging of perishable food commodities, dairy products and spices. Dr Yogesh Kumar and Er Akhoon Asrar Scientist acquainted the participants with FSSAI registration and licensing processes urging them to get registered with FSSAI and comply with its guidelines. Dr. Rahul Kumar, Scientist and Coordinator of this EDP stressed on the cost effective solutions through packaging for maintaining the quality and enhancing the shelf life of all agricultural products through packaging. Speaking in the valedictory session, Dr. R. K. Singh, Director ICAR-CIPHET, acquainted the participants about the entrepreneurial opportunities in food processing sector and importance of packaging for enhancing the shelf life of the food products. He emphasized the role of packaging in increasing the product appeal and tapping the market through innovative packaging techniques. The programme was attended by established agri-businessmen, aspiring entrepreneurs and progressive farmers coming from different Indian states. The participants were interested in upgrading their skills and exploring business opportunities in modern packaging techniques. Faculty from ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana were roped in for imparting the training. Dr. R. K. Singh, Director, ICAR-CIPHET, presented the certificates to the participants in valedictory session. A compendium on ‘Packaging of fresh and processed food products’ was also released in the session. Dr. Singh assured the support to the candidates in providing technical know-how for establishing their units and answering the technical queries of the participants in future too.
