Holds meeting with district administration to implement PM's 15-point agenda for welfare of minorities
Ludhiana, January 19, 2023: The Member of the National Commission for Minorities Rinchen Lhamo on Thursday asked the district administration to evolve a proper mechanism to effectively implement welfare schemes in a letter and spirit for safeguarding the interests of the minorities.
Presiding over a meeting of the district administration, the Member Commission said that the need of the hour was to protect the interests of this section of the society. She said that every effort must be made to ensure the well-being of the minorities by implementing PM's 15-point agenda for the welfare of minorities. She said that the mandate of commission was to provide education, improve school infrastructure, greater sources for teaching Urdu, modernize madrasa education, scholarships for meritorious students from minorities communities, ensure equitable share in economic activities, employment, and housing schemes, up-gradation of skills, proper credit support for businesses, improvement in the condition of slums inhabited by minorities and others for minority section of society. She said that the interests of minorities need to be secured, for which the Commission was already working dedicatedly. She also asked the officials to make awareness about welfare schemes among the minorities so that the benefits of the schemes meant for their upliftment reach to them.
The Member exhorted the officers to act as guardians of minorities in the state. She said that the officers need to sensitize themselves to safeguard the interests of the section in the district.
Earlier, welcoming the member Commission, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Amit Kumar Panchal and others assured her that the administration will leave no stone unturned for implementing schemes and programs for the minorities.
