Excise department seizes illegal liquor and beer in separate raids, nabbed three
Various teams of Excise department Ludhiana on Sunday seized 12 boxes of illegal whiskey, 700 bottles of beers and 12 bottles of First Choice brand liquor in separate incidents besides arresting three persons.
Ludhiana, July 31, 2022: Further intensifying its drive against liquor mafia on the directions of Punjab Excise and Taxation, Finance, Planning and Programme Implementation Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, various teams of Excise department Ludhiana on Sunday seized 12 boxes of illegal whiskey, 700 bottles of beers and 12 bottles of First Choice brand liquor in separate incidents besides arresting three persons.
Providing further details, a spokesperson of Excise department said that a joint checking point was laid on Chandigarh Road near Fortis Hospital under guidance of DC(X) Shalin Ahluwalia and under supervision of AC(X) East Sunita Jagpal along with EO Manpreet Singh, Excise Inspectors Gopal Sharma, Varinder Singh, ASI Vinod Kumar, Excise Police Staff and ASI Randhir Singh and Sethi Ram of CIA -2 ,Ludhiana. The team intercepted Swift Dzire (PB-91H-9816) and seized eight cases of PML Santra brand, two cases of 555 whiskey and one case of Imperial Blue (for sale in Chandigarh only) .The FIR was registered and car occupant Bikramjit Singh of village Ramgarh was also arrested.
In second case, a raid was conducted at New Sarpanch Colony from where the team recovered one case of Imperial Blue Whiskey (for sale in Chandigarh only) and 700 bottles of Beer branded Bee Young from the house of Om Parkash. The team nabbed one person namely Kamlesh on the spot but house owner Om Parkash managed to fled away on the spot. A FIR was registered against them and a hunt was launched to nab absconding Om Parkash.
In another raid at slum area near Rattanheri railway crossing was conducted by Excise Inspector Kashmir Singh with other staff. During the checking, the team confiscated 12 bottles of First Choice (For sale in Haryana) and FIR was registered against Shiv Kumar of Rattnheri, who was also arrested on the spot.
He said that as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the crackdown against illicit liquor would continue in coming days and strict action would be initiated against those found indulging in this malpractice.
