Excise dept, police seize 60 bottles of country made liquor
With the district administration and police committed to enforce Model Code of Conduct in the district strictly, the excise department and CIA police seized 60 bottles of country made liquor from the possession of a person near Sabzi Mandi on Tuesday.
Ludhiana, May 7, 2024: With the district administration and police committed to enforce Model Code of Conduct in the district strictly, the excise department and CIA police seized 60 bottles of country made liquor from the possession of a person near Sabzi Mandi on Tuesday.
As per the officials, the department had received a tip-off regarding the illegal activity. Working on the directions of Deputy Commissioner (Excise), Patiala Zone Udaydeep Singh Sidhu, the teams took action and the liquor was confiscated from the possession of Johny Mehra, a resident of LIG flats near Adarsh Nagar. The accused was carrying the liquor in a plastic bag.
An FIR has been lodged against the accused under section 61-1-14 of Excise act in Division number 7 police station.
Meanwhile, District Election Officer (DEO)-cum-Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said that working on the directions of Election Commission of India (ECI), the model code of conduct is strictly being enforced in the district. She further said that illegal activities will be dealt with strictly.
Reiterating the commitment of district administration and police to hold free, fair and transparent elections in the district, DEO Sakshi Sawhney said that the department is keeping a strict vigil across the district and stern action will be taken against illegal activities in future too.
