Expert lecture to commemorate “World Intellectual Property Day”
The DPIIT-IPR and the Department of Microbiology, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized an expert lecture today to commemorate the “World Intellectual Property Day”
Chandigarh, April 26, 2022: The DPIIT-IPR and the Department of Microbiology, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized an expert lecture today to commemorate the “World Intellectual Property Day” in order to raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact daily life and also to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies throughout the world. The program started with a welcome address by Dr. Deepak K. Rahi, Chairman, Department of Microbiology who gave a brief overview of the department, intellectual property rights (IPR) and also discussed how IPR, in the field of microbiology and more specifically for microorganisms is of paramount importance. This was followed by an address by Prof. Rupinder Tiwari, DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor, Panjab University, Chandigarh who briefed the audience about the “World IPR Day.” Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean International students, was the chief guest of the program. She discussed how IPR is not only beneficial for science and technology but holds an equal importance in the field of literature and language as well. The main highlight of the event was a lecture on “Importance of IPR in the digital world” which was delivered by Prof. Sudhir K. Jain, Adjunct professor, IIT-Delhi and former vice-chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, J&K. Prof. Jain started his talk by discussing about the different major forms of IPR and the initiation of IPR education in India. Prof. Jain also discussed how technology development and digitalization has brought a positive change in the development of the society but at the same time has also resulted in unemployment. He also talked about the patent filing system, people associated with it and various laws governing the system. The program ended with a vote of thanks which was delivered by Dr. Aditi Chauhan, Research assistant, IPR-chair.
