Chapparchiri (SAS Nagar)/Chandigarh, February 18, 2014:  Canada and Punjab today emphasised the need for joint initiatives in the area of food processing technology swine forming diary genetics and canola farming to give a big impetus to agriculture economy of Punjab besides to encourage farmers on the sound parameters of agricultural diversification.
The 5th session on Canada on the 3rd day of Agricultural summit-2014 was conducted by Lyle Eldon Stewart Minister of Agriculture Saskathewan. Focusing on food processing technology Robin Young, India project Manager, Manitoba Food Development Centre said that commercialisation of conventional and functional food products was only answer to the economic crises being faced by the farm sector of Punjab. Emphasising on collaborative efforts of Agro-scientists, farmers, food processors, and food scientists, Young focused on targeting viable commercial processes.
Providing a viable alternative on pig rearing or Swine Farming Alfred Wahl, President, Polar Genetics Canada, said that in the protein deficient country like India swine farming should be given incentive as it would provide higher income for farm families, farm family besides ensuring fiscal additions to overall economy. He spoke on the  role of genetics in improving pig production.
Describing canola as a next generation of, Frank Groeneweg Chairman SaskCanola said that in the health conscious society with focus on healthy dietary fats canola was becoming popular all over the world. He said that canola was fast emerging as excellent live stock feed that was increasing diary production.
