Explosives found in Tangdhar in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 5 (IANS) The army Monday found seven improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the frontier area of Tangdhar in Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesman said.

Lt. Col. N.N. Joshi said here that a search operation was launched by the army around Tod and Gabra villages in Kupwara district Sunday, based on intelligence inputs about terrorists planning to disrupt the polling process.

"When the search resumed today (Monday), the army recovered seven IEDs hidden in a hollow tree trunk close to Gabra," he said.

The army and police found eight pistols along with eight magazines and 32 rounds of ammunition Sunday in a joint search operation in Bandipora district.

Lt. Col. Joshi said the recoveries were important as the final round of general election in Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled to be held May 7.
