Exposure visit on crop residue management organized
A total of 30 farmers from villages of Moga district visited research fields of PAU and interacted with scientists
Ludhiana, March 25, 2022: The Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a travelling seminar on ‘Crop Residue Management’ as a part of the project funded by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). A total of 30 farmers from villages of Moga district visited research fields of PAU and interacted with scientists.
Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head of the Department, informed that exposure visit aimed at sensitising the farmers about the need of paddy straw management.
Dr Dharminder Singh, Principal Investigator of the project, sensitized the farmers about the ill-effects of crop residue burning and encouraged them to use various crop residue management technologies developed by PAU.
Dr Lakhwinder Kaur, a PAU expert, advised marginal and small farmers to purchase straw management machinery in groups and use it on cooperative basis.
Dr Arshdeep Singh, an expert from the Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, shared detailed information about Smart Seeder, Happy Seeder, Super Seeder and other straw management machinery. He also demonstrated the outcomes of wheat crop sown using different straw management technologies in the research fields.
Gurinderpal Singh, Extension Fellow, coordinated the visit to the Food Industry Business Incubation Centre and demonstrations of wheat varieties. Later, farmers were provided PAU literature.
