Extension lecture on these `The Relevance of History in the Present Context’

Jalandhar, November 15, 2021: Centre for Historical Studies, under the aegis of PG Department of History, Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar organised an extension lecture .The theme of the lecture was 'The Relevance of History in the Present Context'. A former bureaucrat, Prof. Sukhvinder Singh Head, Department of History Doaba College was the resource person. Dr. Suman Chopra, co-coordinator of the Centre and Head P. G. Department of History welcomed the esteemed guest, the faculty members from the different departments and the students. She motivated the young students to inculcate hard working habits in their lives and try to make a beautiful, safe and better future by learning lessons hidden in the womb of History. Principal, Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra in his message wished that the researched based facts revealed by Prof. Singh would help the students to choose their careers in the present age of competitions.
The Resource Person of the day Prof. Singh highlighted the importance of social sciences in the present globalized world. He shared his experiences with students and encouraged them to think out of box options in arts stream. He told that many science stream students are opting social sciences to compete in the civil services. He emphasised that arts stream is not an easy field, it is a great mine of knowledge and without putting great efforts, great results can't be achieved. He took examples from history, polity and other fields of life to elucidate his view points. Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Registrar of the college and Head P.G. Department of Political Science, was the chief guest on this occasion. She also encouraged the students to do intelligent smart work to achieve the goals of their lives. The lecture was followed by an interaction between the resource person and the students in which the queries of the students were successfully satisfied. Dr.  Amandeep Kaur thanked Prof. Sukhwinder Singh for his mesmerising lecture. Dr. Karanbir Singh conducted the stage. More than 50 students attended this lecture.  Dr. Gopal Singh Buttar, Head P.G. Department of Punjabi and Dr. Balraj Kaur from English Department were also present on this occasion.
