Extremely pre-mature twins successfully handed over to parents

Ludhiana, March 21, 2018: In rare feet of accomplishment performed by Department of Pediatrics & Neonatology, DMCH, Ludhiana, twin babies born 26 weeks pre-maturely were successfully discharged and handed over to their parents.

According to Dr Kamal Arora (Neonatologist), both the babies were extremely weak at the time of their birth (six and a half months) and weighed just 530 grams and 890 grams.

It was a challenging task for a team of pediatricians and neonatologist to save the babies. Both the infants underwent treatment in well-equipped Level 3 (Higher Level) Unit. The team of doctors did their level best to ensure that the babies should survive and do not get any complication in their treatment.

With two months of special care in Division of Neonatology, the extremely tiny babies regained normal birth weight and were successfully discharged from the hospital today in the presence of Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta along with Principal Dr Sandeep Puri, Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh China and Medical Supdts Dr Sandeep Sharma, Dr Ashwani Chaudhary and Dr Puneet Aulakh Pooni (Prof & Head of Pediatrics)

Secretary Sh Prem Kumar Gupta said that DMCH is fully-equipped to deal with most premature births.

Dr Pooni said that Department of Neonatology is certified with Level 3 for excellence in the field of Neonatology and accredited for fellowship in NICU
