Eye Care Awareness Camp at GKU to Mark World Sight Day

Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo organised an Eye Care Awareness Camp at the Campus. Dr Gurdev Singh Sidhu, Ex-C.M.O and Sukhdev Singh Pharmacist were the main speakers and the facilitators of the Camp. Dr Sidhu suggested many precautions to the students and the staff regarding eye health. He said that around 80% of the cases of blindness could have been prevented if necessary measures had been taken to do so. Others speakers also are seen in the picture.

Talwandi Sabo, October 9, 2014: As the whole world is working together for the Universal Eye Health, WHO is celebrating the year 2014 as Global Action Plan, which will motivate the related agencies, NGO’s and other organisations for ‘No More Avoidable Blindness.’

Following suit Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo organised an Eye Care Awareness Camp at the Campus. Dr Gurdev Singh Sidhu, Ex-C.M.O and Sukhdev Singh Pharmacist were the main speakers and the facilitators of the Camp. Dr Sidhu suggested many precautions to the students and the staff regarding eye health. He said that around 80% of the cases of blindness could have been prevented if necessary measures had been taken to do so.

Dr Sidhu further shared that a balanced diet with sufficient quantity of Vitamin C & E can keep our eyes healthy. Routine exercise can also boost eye health up to a great extent. It includes Blinking, Rolling and frequently opening and closing. This can also help overcome the irritating pains, burns and puffy heaviness, specially for the students.

Apart from the above, Dr. Sidhu further suggested to use protective sunglasses while going out in the sun. Use of Cucumber, Papayas and other green leafs used as Salad is very useful.

Dr. N.S. Malhi, Vice Chancellor lauded the efforts of Dr. Sidhu and Sukhdev Singh for imperative such a splendid knowledge to the students and staff of the University. Dr. Malhi thanked and expressed the hope of enriching the students with more health related tips in the future.

Sukraj Singh Sidhu, Managing Director also appreciated the activity to make aware the students & staff about eye care. This will also spread a great message to the community, which will contribute towards the grand International Initiatives like this.

Apart from the staff and students Registrar Satish Goswami and Dr. A.K.Kansal Dean Basic Sciences were also present on this occasion. Prof Sukhdevinder Singh Kaurra PRO was the activity In-charge and compared whole programme.
