Family Dispute Resolution Clinic (FDRC) celebrates its 4th Foundation Day with grandeur
The establishment day of the Family Dispute Resolution Clinic was celebrated at the Knowledge Park Police Station in Greater Noida, in collaboration with Sharda University.
After the implementation of the Police Commissionerate System in Greater Noida, special arrangements have been made for women's safety. One such initiative is a unique clinic located at the Knowledge Park Police Station, established with the collaboration of Sharda University. This clinic, called the Family Dispute Resolution Clinic (FDRC), resolves family disputes without legal action. This clinic completed four years on Friday, and its fourth establishment day was celebrated. During this event, Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh, Additional Commissioner Ajay Kumar, PK Gupta, Chancellor, Sharda University and Vice Chancellor Dr. Sibaram Khara, were welcomed.
PK Gupta, Chancellor, Sharda University stated “that the clinic is continuously being improved with the efforts of the police and staff. He shared the vision to produce students who can contribute to society's welfare and service. He emphasized that the psychology and law departments play a vital role in the FDRC. He praised the clinic for resolving issues without filing FIRs. The clinic operates twice a week, and efforts are underway to make it operational throughout the week. He also mentioned that Sharda University has a counseling center where people can resolve their disputes. The staff of Sharda University and the police are doing excellent work, and this initiative should serve as an example in Uttar Pradesh and inspire similar centers across India”.
Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh addressed the attendees, saying that women should understand that the sacrifices, dedication, and hard work they are putting in are equally matched by men. If both sides understand this, issues will not arise. She added that it is easy to break a relationship, but maintaining it is much harder. To achieve success in life, it is crucial to preserve relationships, as the breakdown of a family impacts everyone, whether male or female. While filing an FIR and sending culprits to jail may be easy for the police, reuniting a broken family is a much more important task. She further mentioned that experts provide proper counseling to find a long-term solution instead of filing an FIR. Faculty members from Sharda University’s legal, psychiatric, and psychology departments are counseling with the police to resolve issues. The state government is preparing a proposal to implement this model in other states of Uttar Pradesh.
Prof. (Dr.) Rhishikesh Dave, Dean, School of Law at Sharda University, explained that four years ago, the university and Gautam Buddha Nagar police set up the Family Dispute Resolution (FDRC) clinic at the Knowledge Park Police Station in Greater Noida to curb domestic violence cases among married couples. In 2024, 210 cases were brought to the clinic, of which 199 were successfully resolved by the Sharda University team, marking a 95% success rate. Only 11 cases resulted in the filing of an FIR. Every year, the number of disputes is increasing, and new steps are being taken in collaboration with Police Commissioner, DCP Suniti, and other police officers.
The following individuals who contributed to the working of the FDRC Clinic were honored by Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh and Sharda University Chancellor PK Gupta: Dr. Sanskriti Mishra, Dr. Avinash Kumar, Dr. Sachita Ray, Dr. Tarun Kumar Kaushik, Dr. Aksha Fatima, Sub-Inspector Lalita Chauhan, Head Constable Anchal Saini.
