Farmers booked for blocking national highway
However, no arrest has been made
Ferozepur: The police have booked six farmers by name besides 600-700 others for blocking the national highway near “Bangali” bridge. Notably, the farmers belonging to various farmers’ outfits led by Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Morcha (KMSM) today have been staging dharna for the last few days against three central laws promulgated through ordinances including The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance, the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Ordinance and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance 2020.
The police have booked Satnam Singh Pannu, State President of KMSM, Jasvir Singh Vice President, District President, Sahib Singh, Angrej Singh, Jaswinder Singh besides 500-600 unidentified persons under sections 188, 269, 270, 289 of IPC, Section 51 of Disaster Management Act 2005 and Sections 2, 3, 4 of Epidemic Disease Act 1897 besides Section 8-B of National Highway Act 1956. However, no arrest has been made.
Meanwhile, the farmers continued their dharna for third consecutive day. State President Pannu said that the farmers unions are united and on September 17, new strategy will be made. “We are not scare of the FIRs lodged against us. We are fighting for our rights and no one can stop us”, said Pannu.
