Farmers discuss emerging trends of Punjab Agriculture


‘Farmers Meet’ organised at CT Group, Maqsudan

Jalandhar, June 14, 2018: CT Institute of Management & Information Technology (CTIMIT), Maqsudan organized a farmer’s meet with a theme “Scientific Farming” at its Maqsudan Campus. A group of farmers of the region participated enthusiastically in the meet.

This scientific farming awareness programme was inaugurated by Dr.Jagtar Singh Dhiman, Registrar CT University, Ludhiana. In his inaugural speech, Dr.Dhiman, while deliberating on prevailing scenario, emerging trends and future prospects of Punjab agriculture said that the present Punjab agriculture is facing a multitude of ecological, economic and sociological concerns that have engaged the farm scientists. The emerging agrarian limitations due to shrinking land holdings, post-harvest losses of perishable farm commodities, impact of weather extremes, marketing imperfections and climate variability on agriculture.

Other speakers were Dr H.S.Thind, Professor of Agricultural Sciences, CT University and Dr Daljit Singh Gill, In-Charge Centre of Excellence in Vegetable Crops, Kartarpur.

The farm experts participating in the event provided useful tips to farmers to follow scientific practices in agriculture, conserve natural resources, use water- efficient technologies like laser levelling of fields, use tensiometer to regulate irrigation in paddy, save water through drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, get field soils tested for proper use of fertilizers, rationalizing nitrogen application using leaf color chart in paddy, maize and wheat. The experts responded to the farmers queries.

Dr. Jasdeep Kaur Dhami, Campus Director welcomed the dignitaries and audience and said that these meetings will be a regular feature in the CTIMIT. She shared about the curricular programme of Agriculture at the CT Group of Institutes, Maqsudan, CT University, Ludhiana and CT Group of Institutes, Shahpur.
