Farmers laud Ludhiana Administration for smooth procurement of Moongi crop on MSP
DC reiterates commitment to ensuring a hassle-free procurement operation
Ludhiana, June 20, 2022: Buoyed over the fool-proof arrangements made by District Administration Ludhiana for purchase of Moongi crop on Minimum Support Price (MSP), the farmers from across the district have lauded the administration for the smooth and hassle-free procurement in the Mandis.
Hailing the efforts Harpal Singh a farmer from village Kothe Pona said that the state administration has made elaborate arrangements for purchasing of Moongi crop. The farmer said that his crop was purchased on the MSP announced by the State government immediately after its arrival in the mandi. He also appealed to other farmers to cultivate this crop in huge numbers as the state government has been purchasing this crop on MSP.
Similarly, another farmer Joginder Singh from village Hathur, Jagraon also appreciated the state government for purchasing his Moong crop on MSP. He said that he didn’t face any problem in selling his crop in the market as the state government has made vast arrangements for it. The farmer said that his entire produce was purchased immediately after he took the crop to Jagraon Mandi.
Likewise, another farmer Kamaljit Singh from village Thakarwal also lauded the arrangements made by the administration for purchasing crop. He said that his crop was procured shortly after he took it to the grain market where procurement officers deputed by state government helped him in selling the crop at the MSP being offered by the state. He said that he didn’t face any problem in selling Moongi crop due to the flawless arrangements made by the state government.
Farmer Gurmail Singh from Kothe Pona village said that his entire lot of moongi crop has been purchased at a price Rs. 200 higher than the fixed MSP, which has never happened before. Crediting state government for this marvelous initiative, he appealed to the other farmers to produce moongi crop every year so as to break the conventional cycle of crops. These farmers stated that Punjab Government's decision to purchase moongi dal on MSP will go a long way in supplementing the income of the farmers by encouraging them to adopt crop diversification thereby checking the depleting ground water.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Surabhi Malik reiterated the state government's commitment to serving the farmers so that they can sell their produce in a smooth and a hassle-free manner. She said that no stone would be left unturned in this task as a vast mechanism has already been evolved by the administration in Mandis to procure moongi crop as per norms and MSP fixed by the state government.
Pointing out further, District Manager Markfed Sunil K. Sofat said that Punjab Government has initiated the procurement of the Summer Moong crop at a Minimum Support Price of Rs. 7275 per quintal directly from the farmers. He further added that so far a total of 2118 Metric Ton (MT) crop has been procured by the government and private agencies in Ludhiana district and payment and lifting was also being ensured within stipulated time-frame. He asserted that farmers would have pleasant experience in the grain markets while selling their crops as elaborate arrangements have already been put in place.
