Farmers lift dharna after getting assurance from administration
It was six day long protest
Ferozepur: Farmers belonging Kisan Majdoor Sangharsh union continued their protest for the sixth consecutive day in front of District Headquarter. Earlier, they planned to block the rail traffic also but due to alertness of the administration, the situation was averted. However, later after getting assurance from the administration, dharna was lifted.
Today, more than 2000 farmers assembled today and raised their concern against the rising electricity prices in the state. Farmer union leaders Satnam Singh Pannu, Jasbir Singh Pinki, Sukhwinder Singh Sabhra, Inderjit Singh Kalliwala and other union members said that the state government should provide the electricity at the rate of Re 1 per unit to all the farmers.
“During the SAD regime, the Congress leaders were condemning them over the high prices of electricity. But what Congress has done in three years”, they said.
Baljit Singh Sidhu, SP Operations met the protestors and tried to pacify them. He said that very soon a meeting with the higher officials will be arranged so that their problems could be solved.
Satnam Singh Pannu said that the administration has assured them that their meeting will be fixed with the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh on February 12.
