FDP on “solid waste management” and “single use plastic”
Jalandhar, December 3, 2019: Faculty Development Programme on “Solid Waste Management” and “Single Use Plastic” was organized at Apeejay College of Fine Arts where Ms. Ramanpreet Kaur acted as a resource person who had been working on this from the past 2-3 years. Having an experience about the waste and the problems one encounter on daily basis in order to dispose it off permanently and making the environment healthy at the same time, she shared with the intellectual audience that source segregation of garbage is the first step as per its type i.e. dry, wet, etc. She added when the garbage is not segregated it causes a lot of problems in environment and eventually we, human beings also face the repercussions of it either in the form of dumps seen around in the city and streets or major health hazards. Talking of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, she put forth that it started with great enthusiasm but with time; the cooperation and contribution of people for government ultimately flared up. She also shared with the faculty about the process of making compost which is an eco-friendly way to get rid of garbage permanently. The faculty members were glad to be the part of this FDP as it was really informative and one could see how serious the problem of garbage disposition is. Principal Dr. Sucharita Sharma putting forth her views said that such FDPs where contemporary topics become the subject of discussion are really beneficial for staff as it helps them to form their perception and learn something new other than their subjects.
