Ferozepur DC flags off Marathon from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium
Ferozepur March 31, 2019: ‘Energising the youths for Tandrust Punjab’ theme of today’s Marathon event, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur Chander Gaind today morning flagged off the Marathon with more than 3000 participants – to sensitize people about election process and to keep them fit besides floating a special message for the youths to shun the menace of drugs and join sports – from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium to Golf Club and back. The event was organized with proper arrangements to facilitate the participants and ensure that they had a memorable event. Leading the event from the front, the deputy commissioner himself participated in the marathon and run up to ML Bhaskar Chowk i.e. five kilometers, along with Divisional Commissioner Sumer Singh Gurjar, Dy.GOC Brig Mohanti, Session Judge PP Singh, IG M.S. Cheena, SDM Amit Gupta, Assistant Commissioner Ranjit singh and CEO of DCM group of schools Anirudh Gupta. During the marathon, participants were found to be enthusiastic for having pictures with deputy commissioner Gaind, who is known as public DC and Gaind happily reciprocated to the same. A large number of participants took selfies with deputy commissioner en route to the stadium. Gaind said that every one of us especially the youth must come forward and take part actively in the marathon and also encourage others to vote must in these elections. He stated that the hard-earned right of the vote must not be wasted and youngsters must exercise it judiciously to strengthen democracy at the grass root level adding that the district administration has taken this initiative to spread maximum awareness amongst the youth. A huge gathering of locals which include students, youths, employees, businessmen, representative of various social organizations, wearing T-Shirts with message in slogans – Punjab Karega Matdaan, Every Vote is necessary, Bye to Drugs Join Sports in white and blue colours - at the stadium was giving a fair like look of the event, not less than a state level function. Speaking to the media persons, Chander Gaind said, the district administration has taken the initiative to awaken Ferozepurians for the noble cause by organizing this Marathon event so that this border town should not give a sleepy look. The event has been organized to give a message to have maximum participation of voters in the coming Lok Sabha elections in this part of the country on May 19 and to the youths to concentrate on their studies and never think about the drugs which spoil your career, he added. Earlier, Gaind along with others took pledge for further wiping out the curse of drugs from the district. He also divulged that in future similar events for the encouragement of Ferozepurians would also be organized with the special focus on drugs in the rural areas. DCM Group of Schools had a great contribution to enthrall the audience and boost the runners by entertaining the audience with patriotic songs and bhangra. In the end, Chander Gaind said, I have no words to thank all those who have associated with the event wholeheartedly, to make it a grand success. On this occasion, those who excelled in the different events of Marathon were also honoured with a Souvenir and cash prizes.
