Ludhiana, October 30, 2024: To ensure a consistent and sufficient supply of fertilizers, especially Diammonium Phosphate (DAP), and to prevent profiteering practices by dealers that exploit farmers, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal has established 14 dedicated teams made up of 56 officials. These teams will conduct daily inspections of fertilizer dealers and will take strict action against any wrongdoing.

The teams include officials from Agriculture, Cooperative Societies, Revenue, and Panchayats. They will submit daily reports to the nodal officer in the evening. Chief Agricultural Officer Dr Parkash Singh has been appointed nodal officer. Inspections will be carried out in areas, including Ludhiana East, Ludhiana West, Samrala, Payal, Khanna, Raikot, Sahnewal, Dehlon, Koom Kalan, Mullanpur, Malaudh, Machhiwara, and Sidhwan Bet. DAP is available at the regulated price of Rs 1,350 per 50 kg bag.

Deputy Commissioner Jorwal stated that these teams will carry out surprise inspections of local dealerships to ensure compliance with pricing and adherence to fair trade practices. This will help prevent overcharging, hoarding, and bundling of unnecessary products with DAP bags. He emphasized that strict action will be taken against violators under the relevant laws.

Jorwal reiterated the Punjab government's commitment to safeguarding farmers' interests and preventing any form of exploitation. The orders have been issued to address concerns by the farmers regarding certain dealers overcharging or pressuring for ‘forced buying’ alongside DAP.

Following the Deputy Commissioner's orders on Tuesday morning, the teams began their fieldwork and conducted checks on the dealers within their jurisdiction.
