FIEO organises Workshop on how to avail low cost foreign currency loans through ECB route for MSME

FIEO organising “Workshop on how to avail low cost foreign currency loans through ECB route for MSME” at Ludhiana on Monday.

Ludhiana, January 20, 2014: To apprise the MSME export sector of the availability of ECB window (which was hitherto a domain of corporate and large borrowers) in the absence of easy availability of foreign currency loans at competitive rates from banks FIEO organised a workshop at Ludhiana on Monday. The workshop was organized in association with SIDBI and Indian Bank.

In his welcome address S.C.Ralhan Regional Chairman (Northern Region), FIEO mentioned that FIEO is committed and devoted in doing numerous activities for the benefit of the exporters. He mentioned that the newly opened FIEO office in Punjab is aiming to work in this direction. He invited feedback from the exporters and participants in organizing the programs they feel will help in their export business. He mentioned that FIEO can invite the experts on the subject who can apprise the industry on the matter related to customs, excise, banking marketing etc. He also advised the exporters to be part of FIEO so that they can also take benefit of the numerous trade promotion activities at both domestic & international front being organized by FIEO.

M.S.Dhillon, Regional Jt DGFT, Ludhiana in his special remarks complimented FIEO for organising the workshop and mentioned that, it is an apex body of exporters which organizes various seminars/open house meets where sometime the problems of the exporters are resolved on the spot. He also apprised about DGFT and its increasing role as a facilitator. He advised the exporters that they shall be fully aware of the benefits/incentives available to them under the foreign trade policy and assured to provide them all the support. He said Knowledge is power and money and we must increase our knowledge by participating in such knowledge driven seminars in large number.

V.Sridhar, General Manager, SIDBI in his address mentioned that they have come out with some niche areas like financing for energy saving schemes and cleaner production norms. He informed that SIDBI has been given additional window by RBI to lend to small and medium scale industry through the External Commercial Borrowings (ECB) Route. It was informed that RBI has allowed SIDBI to raise upto USD 500 million through this route.

P.Krishnamurthy, former Chief General Manager, RBI was also present at the workshop who gave detailed presentation on Exchange rate management. The workshop was also attended by Shri Sanjay Gakhar, Regional Head (North), MCX who apprised about price risk management and how to hedge through futures market.
