Fire Safety Week held in DMCH

Ludhiana, April 20, 2018: A series of awareness lectures was held today in DMCH, Hero DMC Heart Institute and College of Nursing on ‘Fire Safety Week’ being held from 14th April to 21st April, 2018. DMCH Youth Club along with Department of Fire, DMCH organized the event and made the people aware about the various precautions to be taken to avoid fire accidents

Principal Dr Sandeep Puri and Vice-Principal Dr Gurpreet S Wander (Chief Cardiologist, HDHI) lauded the efforts of DMCH Youth Club in organizing this awareness programme. They appreciated the role of members of DMCH Youth Club and faculty members of DMCH, especially Dr Sanjeev Uppal (Professor & Head of Plastic Surgery) in organizing the event

Dr Sanjeev Uppal, in his address, said that fire accidents are quite common and many precious lives can be saved if proper precautions are undertaken.

In India, about 25000 persons die every year in fires and related accidents. The leading causes for these accidents are bursting of gas cylinders or stoves and electrical short circuits. Many of these deaths could have been easily prevented due to proper precautionary measures. A fire can cause major disasters and loss of lives in buildings such as offices, hotels, shopping centers, hospitals, schools and homes and such disasters can be easily avoided if proper fire safety practices are observed. It is in the interests of the community at large that they should pay proper attention to adopt fire safety techniques and keep themselves safe by adopting suitable measures to avoid fire accidents.

An impressive slide presentation was also shown to the public present in OPD Block and other areas. Medical Students- Nandisha, Aakansha and Abhinav Gupta of DMCH Youth Club were also present on the occasion.
