First-ever ten-day ‘Space Camp’ concluded at LPU
This is one of the largest camps related to space for young kids organised in India
Jalandhar, July 4, 2022: First-ever ten-day ‘Space Camp’ was organized at Lovely Professional University (LPU), where young participants were from across the country and a few foreign lands. This is one of the largest camps related to space for young kids organised in India. Here, young minds grasped various techniques and technologies about aerodynamics, rocket designing, spacecraft, satellites and, being self-reliant.
More than 400 young space enthusiasts had registered for the camp, where only 84 of them could enter the camp activities, based on the final selection criteria. They all got a prestigious chance of becoming would-be leaders and innovators in the space sector. Many of the participants were especially honoured and cash awarded for their unique deftness in understanding space. Congratulating the participants on having their own space journey of dreams, LPU Pro-Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal wished all to emerge as future space leaders.
Space Camp was an experience where participants re-lived their dreams of astronauts’ stardom and deep passions for space science. It focussed on the basics of rocketry and learning various means that astronauts use to get to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. During various workshops at the camp; participants learnt to design a satellite; fabricate remotely radio-controlled drones; and learned about intrinsic details on planets, stars and space elements. During the camp, they also experienced what it is like to walk in space through a pseudo ‘Gravity Chair’.
Two participants, Amaira Mittal and Aarav Singla shared that the camp has indeed inspired all participants to get included in the next generation of space leaders by stepping in the footsteps of the great Indian astronauts like Rakesh Sharma and Kalpana Chawla. They also shared: “We have also gathered much information about space engineering, its allied branches and career opportunities by visiting concerned labs at LPU campus and Indian Air Force station at Adampur in Punjab.” The camp not only inculcated educational values among participants but also forwarded fun on the side as the kids participated in various team activities.
Worth mentioning, surpassing over 6900 institutions globally, LPU is ranked 2nd on the HackerEarth rankings, in the race of most technologically advanced institutions. It is ahead of IITs and NITs and possesses the top ranking in aeronautical/aerospace engineering. The course for aerospace engineering at LPU has been designed for learners who intend to design aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, and missiles.
