Five Punjab Teachers to get Rs.1 Lakh each in Awards
Five teachers from Punjab from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English & Social Studies, were selected for the Malti Gyanpeeth Puruskar 2023, a prestigious school teachers award being given to innovative and brilliant teachers since 2013.
Chandigarh, May 14, 2023: Five teachers from Punjab from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English & Social Studies, were selected for the Malti Gyanpeeth Puruskar 2023, a prestigious school teachers award being given to innovative and brilliant teachers since 2013.
Nominations were invited and after initial scrutiny, 23 teachers were shortlisted for another round of written tests, interview with a panel of subject experts, and final interview with a high-profile jury members here yesterday at the PHD House.
The five winners are Romani Ahuja and Harpreet Kaur from GSS Smart School, Ludhiana, Rakesh Kumar from GSS School, Mehlan, Distt Sangrur, Manjeet Singh from Govt High School, Khandebad, Distt Sangrur and Somdatta Bhattacharya from Jain Bharti Mrigawati Vidyalaya, Delhi.
Each of the winners shall be recognized at a public function in New Delhi, on 29th May, comprising of a Robe of Honour, a citation, and Rupees one lakh.
President of the MMM Foundation Manoj Singhal said that the Malti Gyanpeeth Puruskar were instituted in 2013 by the MMS Foundation, to recognize and encourage excellence in education, in honour of late Smt. Malti Mohinder Singh Syngle, an eminent educationist, doyen of women empowerment, and one of the first women of Punjab who did PG and BT (Bachelor of Teaching, now B.Ed) who passed away in 2019 at the age of 97 years.
From 2013 till 2022, 80 teachers have been awarded and the Foundation plans to extend the awards now to government schools all over the country, he added.
Tej Magazine, Secretary of the MMM Foundation informed that nominations were invited from Teachers / Lecturers Higher Secondary Schools in the States of Punjab & Haryana, besides from All India network of Higher Secondary Schools run by Shree Atma Vallabh Jain Federation of Educational Institutions (SAVJFE), and out of 23 contestants, five have been selected by the eminent jury.
The 11-member panel of jury chaired by Manoj Singhal, Chairman and Managing Director, MM Auto Industries Ltd, comprised B.B. Tandon, IAS (retd), former Chief Election Commissioner of India; Dr. Nand Kishore Garg, Chancellor, Maharaja Agrasen University, Baddi; Prof. S.P. Bansal, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala, HP; Dr (Prof) Arun K. Grover, former Vice Chancellor, Panjab University; Rajesh Khullar, IAS, ACS & Financial Commissioner, Revenue, Manmesh Singh Sidhu, IAS, Secretary Labour, Govt of India; B.S.Brar IPS (Retd), former DGP Goa; Dr. Anil Kohli, former President, Dental Association of India, Smt Ruby Jain, Director, MM Auto Industries; Sikandar Lal Jain, Advocate.
The awards will be given away at New Delhi on 29th May by Arif Mohd Khan, Governor of Kerala and Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha.
