Flag Code of India: Tricolour can be flown day and night
District Administration exhorts people to participate in Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and hoist flag atop their houses
Ludhiana, August 1, 2022: In order to ensure people could hoist the national flag atop their houses without any restrictions, the district administration informed that Flag Code of India had been amended by the Government of India under which the national flag could now be flown through day and night.
Divulging further details, a spokesman said that the Ministry of Home Affairs had amended the Flag Code of India 2002 to allow the national flag to be flown even at night at houses/private establishments. He said earlier, the flag could be hoisted only between sunrise and sunset. He said that a member of public or private organization or business establishment could hoist flag all the days/ occasions with dignity and honour of National Flag. He said that the step had been taken by the government to make it convenient for people to hoist the national flag in their homes from August 13 to 15 to participate in 'Har Ghar Tiranga' movement to invoke patriotism among them. He said that the National Flag must be of hand spun and hand woven or machine made, cotton/ polyester/ wool/ silk khadi bunting.
The spokesman said that for government buildings, the flag must be flown from sunrise to sunset. He said that flag must be in rectangular shape and the ratio of the length to the height (width) must be 3:2.
The spokesperson also said that more than three lakh national flags would be hoisted on houses, government offices and buildings under 'Har Ghar Tiranga' initiative to mark the 75th Independence Day in Ludhiana. He said that distribution centres would be set up in the district where a big size flag would be provided to the people at Rs 25, medium size flag for Rs 18 and for 6x9 inch one at Rs 9 in these distribution centres. He said that the local self-help groups of the district were also preparing national flags that would also be made available for this programme to the people.
Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik appealed to the people and all government employees to participate in the program by hoisting or displaying flags in their houses.
