Floral Fiesta: A Floral Delight at Science City
Pushpa Gujral Science City hosted a vibrant Flower Show with more than 100 varieties of flowers featuring a plethora of competitions that brought together approximately 300 enthusiastic gardeners and students to showcase their talent and passion for floriculture. The event, which included competitions such as Potted Flower, Flower Arrangement, Flower Rangoli, and painting, provided a platform for participants to display their creativity and horticultural skills.
Jalandhar, March 2, 2024: Pushpa Gujral Science City hosted a vibrant Flower Show with more than 100 varieties of flowers featuring a plethora of competitions that brought together approximately 300 enthusiastic gardeners and students to showcase their talent and passion for floriculture. The event, which included competitions such as Potted Flower, Flower Arrangement, Flower Rangoli, and painting, provided a platform for participants to display their creativity and horticultural skills.
Pirtpal Singh, Former Chief Executive Officer of Defense Estates, Ministry of Defense, Government of India, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his insightful address, Singh highlighted that Flower shows offer a range of benefits, extending beyond their visual appeal. They contribute towards a joyful way to celebrate the incredible world of plants, learn about their significance, and encourage a sense of responsibility towards preserving the beauty and balance of our natural environment. Further, the occasion provides an opportunity to think about how our actions impact the natural world and what we can do to protect it, he added.
Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director, Science City, giving an introductory remark said that the Annual Flower Show is a celebration of the floral biodiversity of the region. He highlighted the integral role of flower diversity in the health and functioning of ecosystems. He emphasized that flowers, by providing essential resources such as nectar and pollen, attract a diverse range of pollinators, including bees, butterflies, birds, and insects thus supporting various species throughout their life cycles. Dr. Grover further stressed the importance of conserving and promoting flower diversity for maintaining a balanced and sustainable environment.
Results of the competitions: Painting : Jasmeen from St. Marry convent school and Astha from St.Joseph School Jalandhar stood first and second respectably. In a Rangoli Competition Neelam Arora and Arshdeep from DAV Model school Kapurthala clinched first and second prize respectably.
In a General Public Asters Pushpa Gujral Science City achieved first prize and Miss Rohini Jalnadhar got second prize.
Cultivators/Institution: Asters Cant Borad Jalandhar received first and second prize.
