FOOD Security Bill to end starvation and malnutrition: PYC Secretary

Ferozepur, July 13, 2013: Gurbhej Tibbi, Secretary, Punjab Youth Congress said, the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi is very serious about the implementation of Food Security Bill.

In a statement here today, he added with the implementation of Food Security Bill, more than 81 crore population would be benefited.

He further said, “About 46 per cent of women of the country are suffering from malnutrition and weight of child at the time of birth is even less than 2.5 Kg. With the coming up of Bill, the starvation and malnutrition would come to end”.

“Under APL, BPL and PDS schemes of the Centre, the poor are already getting certain commodities on cheaper rates but with the introduction of Food Security Bill, it will be a legal right to have foodgrain at the cheaper rates and 63 crore people, say 75 per cent of rural population and 18 crore in urban areas, say 50 per cent, would be extended the benefit of this Bill”, Gurbhej Tibbi added.
